Drinking Coffee Could Help Prevent Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is among the most prevalent sexual disorders that men struggle with at some point in their lives. For some, it may happen once while for others ED may come back several times. Popularly known as impotence, ED is debilitating, to say the least.
Due to the embarrassing bedroom moments associated with this sexual disorder, men suffering from it choose to stay as far away from sex as possible. Their social life suffers significantly. Unfortunately, ED results in loss of self-esteem – a consequence that adversely interferes with nearly all the aspects of a man’s life. It is so severe that a victim of ED may begin to post poor performance at work, in business, and education. Some even take a back seat as far as their social lives are concerned.
Seeing that the consequences of impotence are detrimental, the male populations of all walks of life need to come to terms with ED prevalence – besides doing everything possible to keep it at bay. A while back, ED was mostly linked to old age; but not anymore. For this reason, scientists and medical experts are in serious pursuit of more efficient methods of treating erectile dysfunction in a bid to curb the menace.
You must already have heard or read about the weirdest techniques of treating ED. Is coffee on your list? According to a research study conducted by a group of researchers from the University of Texas, Health Science Center, Houston, your daily cup of coffee is doing more than keeping you awake and energetic.
Apparently, caffeine may minimize your chances of suffering from erectile dysfunction. The researchers reported that men aged 20 and above, who took two to three cups of caffeine daily have substantially fewer chances of having erectile problems.
So, what is the relationship between coffee and erectile dysfunction? One of the coauthors, Run Wang, M.D explained that caffeine has properties that are the same as the ones contained in ED drugs like Viagra. These components are usually responsible for triggering a series of effects that relax the arteries in the penis. Note that these two aspects are critical to quality erections.
Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the researchers were unable to ascertain the connection between caffeine and increased circulation. Another thing that you should know is that the study was not free of bias. The researchers obtained the data used from the National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey. As such, further research needs to be conducted to confirm or dismiss these findings. However, until that happens, men are encouraged to keep up with a moderate intake of coffee (approximately 170-375 milligrams).
Besides consuming coffee, there are a couple of other things that you can do to prevent ED or alleviate its symptoms. If you are a cigarette smoker or you have been drinking more alcohol than you should, it is time you tried to quit. The use of other recreational drugs isn’t good either. Men leading an inactive lifestyle are advised to get their bodies moving. Shedding excess weight goes a long way in saving you from the consequences of ED. Proper nutrition is also essential when it comes to ensuring effective erectile functioning.
